Background & Brief

Movie House commissioned Tibus to design, develop and host its website. The main challenge was to better integration with the ticketing system for online sales and integration with a number of film information feeds, resulting in real time date film information and show times being displayed on the website. To target cinema customers when out and about it was important to deliver showtimes to mobile browsers with a clear, easy and accessible mobile website.

Services

  • There were several XML integrations required for this project with varying levels of complexity.
  • Importing film description details from a central 3rd party source so that cinema staff need not add films individually. Films are updated automatically on a daily basis, however the Movie House central office can choose to update manually as well. This import would also auto-generate a list of film genres for use within search and for grouping user newsletters.
  • Importing the show times from each Movie House outlet, and making them available to web  users. Movie times and ticket availability are constantly updated throughout the day.
  • Make calls to the BBFC to get film certificate information where none is otherwise available.
  • The show times for each cinema were made available via a mobile friendly version of the website. This version is not vendor specific and should be quite usable on any mobile handset. The mobile site has an extremely small data footprint meaning it will download very fast, with little cost to the end user in data charges.

Results

  • The solution was implemented successfully, importing and integrating the xml feeds on an ongoing basis meant that the cinema times, availability and film information could all be displayed throughout the website in real time.
  • Full integration with the ticketing system meant that the website was able to indicate when a film was sold out or nearly sold out using colour indicators. The film content that was feed into the site from the external xml feeds was matched with the film title and displayed automatically on the website without the need for manual site administration. 
  • The mobile version of the Movie House website was successfully developed and launched in line with the website. The mobile site has been very popular with increasing number of hits per month.
